You have probably heard that 7-9 hours of sleep is the recommended number of hours of sleep for adults, but did you know if you aren’t catching enough Zzz’s, it it can negatively impact your journey to lose weight?

But how?!?
Well, to break it down:
Sleep quality and quantity are both associated with weight loss journey outcomes.
Shortened and/or disturbed sleep/wake cycles are associated with both metabolic and endocrine body dysfunction, which in turn, negatively impacts weight loss in a variety of ways. This is because, scientifically speaking, the body’s:
a. Metabolic rate decreases
b. Physiological hunger cues may increase
c. Glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity decrease
d. Grehlin, which stimulates hunger, is increased
e. Leptin, which decreases satiety, is decreased
f. Evening cortisol increases
Therefore, a sub-par sleeping regimen could be the culprit for your stalled weight-loss journey.

Additionally, poor sleep is negatively associated with morbidity and mortality, performance, judgement, accidents, function and quality of life, and family well-being.

At Hummingbird Health and Wellness, LLC, we recognize that there is not a "one-size-fits-all" approach to sleep and lifestyle change.
We'd love to chat with you about how we can optimize your sleep and help you maximize your personal weight loss, and health and wellness goals.
