What is Functional Medicine?
To put it briefly, Functional Medicine is an individualized, root-cause approach to healthcare. Rather than always prescribing medications as "band-aids" for symptoms of disease, this approach asks the question "why", and seeks to understand and treat the root-cause. It recognizes each person as a unique body-mind-soul with varying complexities and often focuses on using lifestyle, diet, and supplements as the first line for healing. Unlike conventional medicine, it does not seek what is "normal", but rather seeks "optimal" values for optimal function of the body. Functonal Medicine utilizes a variety of modalities such as GI stool mapping, adrenal fatigue testing, food sensitivity testing, mold and mycotoxin testing, and many, many more.
Do you take insurance?
We are not in network with any insurance at this time, however we do accept FSA/HSA payment. Hummingbird Health and Wellness, LLC, does not make any guarantee to the acceptance of pay of the FSA/HSA by your participating organization.

Emilie is a board certified Adult Nurse Practitioner with 2 decades of clinical experience and additional certifications in Functional Medicine. She has a passion for a root-cause approach to wellness due to her own healing journey with auto-immune disorders and other chronic health conditions. Stemming from her own experience of healing with this approach, she is passionate about a whole-person methodology of providing healthcare for truly optimal wellness.

Am I eligible for your services?
We currently accept patients over the age of 18, who are located in Maryland at the time of the visit. Please note, we are unable to accept patients who are currently covered under insurance either with Medicare or Medicaid. This is our strict office policy.
Do you accept FSA/HSA?
You may use your FSA/HSA debit/credit card at time of payment, however Hummingbird Health and Wellness, LLC, makes no guarantee to the acceptance of the claim by your insurance.
What if I need lab-work, a prescription, or other procedure??
No problem - as a Nurse Practitioner, Emilie can generally order what may be necessary without needing to see another provider to do so.
Do you see clients in person or virtually?
Currently all of our services are offered through a HIPAA-complaint virtual telehealth platform.
